The Wall Messenger
By: Connor McLeod

It was like any other day for police officer Charles Brown. That is, until it happened. A certain thing. This thing would change his life forever.
There was a report by a terrified neighbor of Trisha Carlton. She said that she heard screaming and then a gunshot at Trisha's house. She reported seeing a black 1986 Ford Mustang drive to the house for the previous five days, but it never stayed for more than a few minutes. The car was not there, however, when she heard the gunshot.
When investigators went inside, they found a dead body with a bullet hole right through the heart. They found nothing else. Charles thought of it as nothing more than a drunk rage or a revenge seeking enemy. Boy was he wrong.
Further investigations revealed it was a .50 sniper rifle round, or at least they think. It is hard to tell when the bullet goes straight through. They continue to search the house for days, looking for more clues. They are unsuccessful after a week, and stop looking. That's just too bad. If they had the common knowledge to look at the wall in the coat closet, right behind Trisha's favorite coat, they would have seen a sentence carved into the wall.
Another week goes by. Officer Charles does what he normally does. He goes around on the highway for hours at a time. He stops by the donut café, eats, drinks. Now Charles isn't fat. He's not skinny. He is a man with dark hair, a moustache, and goes to church. He didn't drink or smoke. He was a good guy.
They get a report by a neighbor of John Hilt. Once again there is yelling, but this time there is two gunshots. It is reported that they didn't sound the same, which means there might have been other blood, but there wasn't. Once again, he reported seeing the black mustang. It was also not there the day of the crime.
This could only mean one thing. It was the same person. Charles still thought it was just a drunk. But after the fourth time the crime happened, none of the victims were connected to each other. Charles was convinced this was a serial killer.
The fifth time the same crime was committed, there was more evidence. they had found a sentence scratched on the wall. The sentence looked like this.
%uFFFC
It looked like each word was newer than the last, so Charles guessed that each word was carved on a different day, but kept it to himself. Just one more big mistake. Possibly, a fatal one.
As he was leaving the house, he saw a black mustang driving by. He got in his car and chased it. They went for eight miles until the black car crashed into a tree on the side of the road. The man got out and ran. Charles shot him in the back with 60,000 volts.
The man was about 40 or so. When Charles asked why he ran he responded, "I heard about the killing, so I was scared because we have the same car."
When Charles went back to the car, he found crack under the passenger seat. Now Charles would lock him up for possession of illegal drugs instead.
After finding the writing on the wall, they went back and checked all the other houses. Sure enough, there was the same sentence, carefully yet quickly carved.
There were no other reports for about a month. The police forgot the whole thing ever happened, until they got a tip saying they saw a man drive to a shooting range in a black mustang, holding a .50 sniper rifle. Before Charles could get there, he had already left.
They passed each-other on the way and Charles quickly did a u-turn and followed him.
Charles followed him to an empty home in the country. He got out and followed him to the door, holding his pistol. He knew this man could be dangerous.
Charles kicked down the door and ran inside. He could hear the killer running. He saw him and shot, but he missed. Then, before he could act, he heard rapid gunfire coming from out side the house. He ran for cover behind a tipped table and a sofa to his back, Then, as he was looking to shoot, he saw the killer draw an uzi and shot over and over and over again. A lot of bullets hit Charles in the chest , but he was wearing a bullet-proof vest. Twice he got shot in the arm, then the leg. Then, it was silent. He had run away.
Charles radioed back to his department to get the ambulance over to him. How was he supposed to drive to the hospital with a leg and arm useless?

p.s. sorry about the %uffc thing it says you are goin to die.
